Ain't She Sweet?

The Scoutie-Pie Diaries
Rainbow Bridge on January 6th, 2005

Hi, my name is Scout. I was rescued from the Seattle Animal Shelter on March 30th, 2002. I was found wandering around Seattle and was picked up as a stray. Jean rescued me after no one came to claim me. No one knows my story so I'll have to start all over in my new home. We think I am about 10 years old. Oh yeah, I am a girl. My hoomans tell me that my birthday party will be on April 24th...right in between Betsy and Albert. I like to play with tennis balls. And I already know how to sit. I am still working on feeling safe, crate training, and learning the routine around here. But, I know I have people that really love and want me. What more could I ask for?

May Update: Yippee!!! I'm allowed to sleep on the bed! Seems I spend an awful lot of time at the doctor's place. I have a bunch of strange symptoms and we are trying to figure out what is wrong. I have extreme separation anxiety and I am taking medicine to help me. Also, I have allergies and my digestive system doesn't work like it should. Everyone thinks I'm a boy because of my name, Scout. So, we have officially changed it to Scoutie-Pie! I am very good in the car, but I am scared of my crate. I also love to toss pillows off the bed and steal socks.

July 2002 Update: Time is really flying, it is already July. I know the routine pretty well. I have even made some Corgi friends and went to my first Corgi picnic. I am still very sick, and I am taking different types of medication, and have changed to a hypoallergenic diet. Nothing seems to be working. A few days ago, I had an endoscopy (Thank you CorgiAid!). That is where the doctors put a tiny camera into my stomach and up the other end. The doctor took some tissue samples to see if they can help me get better.

October 2002 Update: I've been on medication since July and I am really improving. Thanks to Corgi-Aid for all the help! It turn's out that I have the doggie version of Crohn's disease. I have a very restricted diet, and the only "cookie" I get is a piece of carrot. There is always hope, though. Despite my food limitations, I am quite a happy little dog, and have a loud voice, too. You should see me wiggle my bunny butt. I think I am boss around this place.

February 2003 Update: It is hard to believe that i've been in my new home for nearly a year. My intestines seem to be all healed and I can even eat a special biscuit now and then. I've just healed from an eye ulcer. I had to wear an Elizabethan collar for a month. Whew, I'm glad that is over. I've been feeling happier and making all sorts of silly noises. My mom said that I even Aaarrroooed...well, almost

October 2003 Update: I love living here and I am so happy. I had a bout with IBD this month, but I know I will get better soon. And yes, I AM boss around this place (don't tell Betsy).

October 2004 Update: Oh boy, another eye ulcer. This time is is in the other eye. Mommy said that it was expected. It didn't take long at all to heal!

January 2005 Update: Scout went on a hunger strike in December 2004. It seems that her kidneys were finally damaged from her allergic inflammatory conditions. The large antibody-antigen protien complexes, formed through the body's reaction to allergens destroyed her filtering cells. We tried to get her to eat, but she must have felt awful from the toxin buildup in her blood. On Thursday, January 6th, at 5:30 pm, we finally helped her to a better place where she can run free, healthy and happy. Scoutie-Pie, you really touched our hearts and three years with us was just not long enough. We love you dearly and life without your silly smile will never be the same. Goodbye Scoutie-Pie.
