Patrick's Story
Patrick came to Old Dog Haven after being dumped by the side of the road. Old Dog Haven is a shelter dedicated to giving unwanted senior dogs back their dignity. It is operated by an angel named Judith Piper. These dogs come to Old Dog Haven for various reasons...an owner gets sick or dies, or animal care becomes a financial impossibility, or in Patrick's case...an old dog is just too much trouble and is simply dumped by the side of the road. Some dogs spend their final days, weeks, or months with Judith and her husband. Others live in approved foster homes. Most need regular veterinary care, and several require medication or special diets. But all get the care they need to live out the last part of their lives in a safe and loving environment.
In late June of 2006, Patrick was brought to Old Dog Haven. His age is estimated to be 16. Patrick suffers from anemia, prostate cancer and kidney disease. A mutual friend let me know about Patrick and we planned a visit for July 13th. I was greeted by about 10 happy old lab mixes and a cute Corgi with a fluffy tail. It was a wonderful visit and I took a lot of pictures. Judith is amazed at all the hair she can brush from his coat. As an owner of three Corgis...No Comment! At the time of this writing, July 22nd, Patrick's kidneys are failing fast, but he still enjoys short walks and ball play.
Update: Patrick was helped to the Rainbow Bridge in the first week of November 2006. This had been Judith's first experience with a Corgi. She said Patrick was a fabulous little dog and that they had adored him. So long Patrick - we love you!!!
